I find taxes fascinating in their complexity. Deciphering and working within the Code and Regs is like solving a vast puzzle that changes continuously. I started in the business in 1977 after getting a BS in Accounting, when I started working for a small CPA firm. I then studied tax law at the University of Detroit School of Law. I graduated in 1980 and went to work at a large regional CPA firm, specializing in pensions. I then was a professor of Finance and Tax at Walsh College. From there, I created a series of financial literacy programs for companies like Ford, AT&T, BellSouth, the states of Montana, Washington and Idaho, as well as CalPERS and other entities on retirement planning. In 1989, I started my own wealth management firm, LJPR Financial Advisors. I’ve been growing the business and helping people ever since. I helped author a financial planning text, have written a book on IRAs, and appear on a multitude of media outlets, ranging from the WSJ to the NY Times to the local Fox affiliate. I’m engaged in the notion of knowing the rules and utilizing those rules to best serve the client.
