I graduated from Manchester University with an honours degree in Economics & Politics. I am a qualified Chartered Accountant and member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. I am a Tax Partner specialising in the real estate, construction & hospitality markets. Significant areas of experience includes listed property companies; UK-REITs, structuring cross border real estate funds; in-bound and out-bound property investments undertaken by listed companies, funds, privately owned groups and individuals and Private Finance Initiative (PFI / PPP) projects. I have regularly advised real estate funds looking to secure investment from both institutions and retail investors in tax favoured sectors such as those qualifying for inheritance tax business property relief. I am a regular speaker on these areas, both in the UK and at international real estate conferences including MIPIM and ExpoReal. I am also BDO's press spokesman on all taxation matters and am regularly quoted in the national press and broadcast media on taxation issues. In 2011, I was appointed by the Exchequer Secretary, David Gauke MP as one of the eight independent members of HM Treasury's Tax Professionals Forum. I am the Hon. Accountant to the Penguin International Rugby Football Club and a member of the Carlton Club
