As Vice President, Global Tax and a member of the NIKE Finance leadership team, I’ve had the responsibility of developing and executing the global tax strategy for direct and indirect taxes. Specific activities include the planning, financial reporting, compliance, and management of tax audits with respect to federal, foreign, and state and local taxes. The development of risk management strategies for the global tax structure, and ensuring all domestic and international laws and accounting standards are followed and strong internal controls are in place. Review and monitor changes in domestic and foreign tax legislation, rulings, regulations, and litigation to understand the relevant impact and recommend and implement planning strategies that manage existing positions, capture new opportunities, and optimize the enterprise risk profile. This also includes the responsibility to develop and lead a worldwide team of tax professionals and maintaining productive and value-added relationships with tax advisors and other outside consultants.
