How do I get IRS to honor "stay" in Chapter 7 Bankruptcy? IRS did not return my payments during automatic stay.
I declared bankruptcy in 2000. My taxes for 1998-2000 were included and were discharged12/28/2000. My requested transcripts from IRS reflect bankruptcy. They did not stop withholding taxes, kept my refunds, levied social security and civil service annuity. Insisted on me paying them before they would abate and refund taxes withheld. Will not respond to correspondence. Leaves me holding for up to an hour on the phone then disconnects me. Help me.

This is a complicated issue to handle by phone. There has to be a determination by the IRS that your outstanding tax liability was indeed discharged in bankruptcy proceedings. In your post, you state that the discharge is reflected in your IRS transcripts. Are the assessments for any other outstanding year?
