Tax Professionals—How To Market A Budget!—Part 2

Kat Jennings, CEO TaxConnections

This is Part #2 of a 12-part series answering, “Why Some Tax Professionals Make More Money Than Others.”

Every tax professional should invest the time and effort in marketing themselves, but that does not mean they have to spend an exuberant amount of money doing so. For over 30 years, I have observed tax professionals succeed financially beyond most people’s dreams and encountered tax professionals with the same amount of education and expertise who have not. Let me explain what I am talking about!

Why would two tax professionals within the same tax specialty, the exact same degrees from the same universities, the same years of experience and be the same age be making unequal compensation? How do tax professionals make it to the top financially whilst others do not?

Having helped thousands of tax professionals over the years establish themselves at the top of the profession, I know exactly what they do that is different from the person who struggles. Before I share with you, please understand I have the knowledge that will get you there given the experience with my TaxConnections clients over the years. I know what I am talking about on the subject of tax professional compensation having prepared thousands of reports on the subject of compensation for tax professionals.

First of all, what I am about to share with you works for tax professionals in corporations, law firms, public accounting firms, and independent tax services providers. There are three things I observe that really successful tax professionals do very well!

  1. Every high paying tax professional I know markets themselves consistently. Everybody recognizes who they are because they are masters at making themselves known to the world. The ability to market themselves sets the 1M+ annual salaried tax professionals from the 300K tax professionals.

NOT marketing oneself is the number one error tax professionals make and it was one of the many motivators to create TaxConnections . I wanted to make it easy for every tax professional in the world to market their tax expertise to a steady flow of great connections. If you make zero effort to market yourself, you can expect the same results. The responsibility is in your hands to market your tax expertise to a world looking for you online each day.

  1. Every tax professional who has risen to the top financially positions themselves in front of a steady stream of prospects who can access to them easily. This does not mean paying a site money so you can send them a message. Do you realize you lose 85% of new opportunities coming to you when people must pay to send a message to connect with you? Stop making people pay to send you a message and watch what happens to your success.
  2. Many tax professionals need to break old habits of just sitting there and expecting something great to happen for them. It is time to breakout  of old habits and do something different this year that will effectuate your success. We have developed the perfect new platform for you to make things happen at TaxConnections.
